Learning to Paramotor
If you have already learnt to Paraglide, learning to fly a Paramotor is relatively easy. However, we believe that proper instruction is vital when it comes to learning how to fly a Paramotor. Do not believe anyone who tells you that you need no instruction or just a couple of days! They are probably just trying to sell you some equipment! With a Paramotor, you have the capability to actually go places and without proper knowledge of Air Law, Meteorology and Navigation you could get into very serious trouble without proper training.
We at Mahony
Aviation,
have found through many years of teaching
Paramotoring that pilots should fully
master the skills of being able to
handle the wing before introducing
the complications raised by power;
thrust, torque, etc. However,
that's not to say that you won't get
your hands on the mechanical bits
and pieces from Day 1!!
We will teach you to fly a paramotor from
scratch or as a conversion from an
existing paragliding or microlight
qualification.
BHPA Licensed Paramotor Instructors
Your Instructors here at Mahony
Aviation
were at the forefront of developing
the new SPHG syllabus in conjunction
with the BHPA’s Technical Officers.
It is reassuring
to know that Mahony
Aviation
is a BHPA Registered School and our
instructors regularly fly their own
paramotors thus ensuring that their
skills remain sharp, standards are
maintained and the latest teaching
techniques are introduced.
The
Club Pilot (Power) & Pilot (Power)
Ratings*
The new SPHG
syllabus from the BHPA is divided
into two parts - the Club Pilot (Power)
and the Pilot (Power) Ratings. The
Club Pilot (Power) Rating is achievable
with around 5 - 7 days
of training and will enable you to
fly your Paramotor solo around a defined
area from your local field and practice
circuits. If you wish to fly
Cross Country then you will need to
continue your training for the Pilot
(Power) Rating which may take another
2 or 3 days.
A copy of the BHPA SPHG Syllabus is
available by clicking on this link:

*Please
note that the CP (Power) Rating used
to be known as the Restricted SPHG
Rating and the Pilot (Power) Rating
used to be known as the Unrestricted
SPHG Rating or the old FLPA Endorsement.
The name change was simply to facilitate
bringing the Ratings into line with
the other BHPA PG / HG Hill &
Tow Ratings. NB: The syllabus
content remains the same!
